Theyalsoindicateyourrefrigeratorisoperatingasdesigned.Hard
surfaces,suchasvinylorwoodoors,walls,andkitchencabinetsmay
makesoundsmorenoticeable.Listedbelowaredescriptionsofsome
ofthemostcommonsoundsyoumayhear,andwhatiscausingthem.
A. Evaporator
Theowofrefrigerantthroughtheevaporatormaycreate
aboilingorgurglingsound.
B. Evaporator Fan
Youmayhearairbeingforcedthroughtherefrigeratorby
theevaporatorfan.
C. Defrost Heater
Duringdefrostcycles,waterdrippingontothedefrost
heatermaycauseahissingorsizzlingsound.After
defrosting,apoppingsoundmayoccur.
D. Automatic Ice Maker
Ifyourrefrigeratorisequippedwithanautomaticice
maker,youwillhearicecubesfallingintotheicebin.
E. Cold Control & Automatic Defrost Control
Thesepartscanproduceasnappingorclickingsound
whenturningtherefrigeratoronandoff.
F. Condenser Fan
Youmayhearairbeingforcedthroughthecondenserby
thecondenserfan.
G. Compressor
Modern,high-efciencycompressorsoperatemuch
fasterthanoldermodels.Thecompressormayhavea
high-pitchedhumorpulsatingsound.
H. Water Valve
Ifyourrefrigeratorisequippedwithanautomaticice
maker,youwillhearabuzzingsoundasthewatervalve
openstolltheicemakerduringeachcycle.
I. Drain Pan (not removable)
Youmayhearwaterrunningintothedrainpanduringthe
defrostcycle.
J. Condenser
Maycreateminimalsoundsfromforcedair.
K. Motorized Damper
Mayproducealighthummingduringoperation.

1 Unplugrefrigerator.
2 Wearglovesasprotectionagainstpossiblebrokenglass.
3 Removelightcover,ifnecessary.
4 Unscrewandreplaceoldbulbwithanappliancebulbof
thesamewattage.
5 Replacelightcover,ifnecessary.
6 Remembertoplugtherefrigeratorbackin.
NOTE
Rigidfoaminsulationisveryenergyefcient,butisnota
soundinsulator.
IMPORTANT
Duringtheautomaticdefrostcycle,youmaynoticearedglow
intheventsonthebackwallofyourfreezercompartment.
Thisisnormalduringthedefrostcycle.
CAUTION
Wear gloves when replacing light bulbs to avoid getting
cut.
IMPORTANT
YouricemakeristurnedOnatthefactorysoitcan
workassoonasyouinstallyourrefrigerator.Toensure
properfunctionofyouricemaker,connectawatersupply
immediatelyorturntheIcemakeroffbyliftingthewire
signalarmtothe“up”orOFFposition(sidemounted)orthe
icemaker’sOn/OffpowerswitchturnedOff-settothe“0
position(rearmounted).
