Cylinder Head Removal
1. Clean the area above the engine before
disassembly to prevent dirt falling into the
engine.
2. Drain the engine oil (page 44).
3. Drain the radiator coolant after cooling the
motorcycle (page 143).
4. Remove the seat and fuel tank (page 36, 37).
5. Lift the subframe to the upright position (page
39).
6. Remove the carburetor (page 132).
7. Remove the exhaust pipe (page 64).
8. Remove the spark plug (page 61).
9. Disconnect the air suction (1) and vacuum
hoses (2) (california only).

(2) vacuum hose (4) PAIR control valve
(7) primary wire connector
(8) bolts/clamp
(9) ignition coil
14. Position the piston to top dead center on the
compression stroke (page 66).
15. Loosen the radiator hose clamp (10) and
disconnect the radiator hose (11).
(5) left radiator grill
(6) left radiator lower mounting bolt/washer

10. Remove the bolts (3) and PAIR control valve
(4) (california only).
11. Remove the camshaft holder assembly, lifters
and shims (page 68).
12. Remove the left radiator grill (5) and left
radiator lower mounting bolt/washer (6).

13. Disconnet the primary wire connector (7).
Remove the bolts/clamp (8) and ignition coil
(9).
