Cache Space Requirements
Cache Space Requirements
Administrators should be familiar with the implications the DFS cache
configuration has regarding actual disk space requirements. Chapter 8 of the
OSF DFS Administrators Guide provides some guidance and information
regarding this subject.
In general, and when using the default cache configuration, administrators
should anticipate the DFS cache will require 10% more disk space than the
specified cache size to accomodate both DFS-specific files and file system
overhead. File system overhead includes the disk blocks necessary for
inodes, directories, and other file system specific structures. DFS cache
overhead consists mostly of the space necessary to hold the CacheItems and
FilesetItems files.
CAUTION: Failure to allocate adequate space to contain the cache will result in error messages
being written to the system log, and may cause loss or corruption of data.
