Cardholder
T
he clear plastic cardholder holds paper, cards, and
envelopes close to the platen. The red horizontal
line toward the bottom of the cardholder indicates
the base of the typing line.
The red verti
cal line at the top center of the card-
holder shows the position of the next character to
be typed. Use the red vertic al line on the card-
holder
to realign cha ra cters.
To realign characters for a correction:
1. Position the charact ers in the small verti cal lines
at the top of the cardho lder.
2. Roll t he paper d ow n to the horizo nt al line
t owa rd the bottom of the car dholder ( see
photo).
3. Position you r paper so the bottom of e ach char-
acter r ests ju st above the lin e, as shown.

Drawing Lines
Use th e cardholder to help you d ra w li nes.
To draw a vertical li ne:
1.
Pla ce a pencil or ballpoint pen in the not ch on
the t op of the ca rd holde r.
2. Us ing the platen knobs or index ke y, ro ll up or
down the page. (You can al so pull the line finder
forward, t hen us e the platen kno bs to ro ll up or
dow n the pa ge . With the li ne fi nder forward,
the platen rol
ls freely. Re tu rn the line finder t o its
original p
os ition wh en you finish.)
To draw a horizontal li ne:
1. P
la ce a penc il or ba llpoi nt pen in the notch on
t he cardhol der.
2. Us ing t he spacebar, mo ve the ca rr ier across
the page.
Impression Control
T
he impre ssi on control l eve r is l oca ted t o t he r ig ht
of the t yp e element. Yo u can change t he impres-
sion control setting to adjust the striking force
of the element.
To change t he impression control setting :
Push the lever to the right and slide it forw ard or
backwa
rd to t he des i red number. Do not force the
l eve r against the notches wh en you cha nge
settings .
Use the follow ing list as a gu id e for sett in g th e
impression co n tro l:
1-3 = offset masters
3 = most typing
3-5 = stenc ils and ca rbon sets
