TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION
Vacuum cleaner
won’t start.
Unplugged at wall outlet. Plug in rmly, press On/O switch.
Tripped circuit breaker/blown fuse
at household service panel.
Reset circuit breaker or replace fuse.
Loose hose electrical connections. Reconnect hose ends.
Poor job of dirt
pick-up.
Full or clogged dust bag. Change bag.
Clogged airow passages. Clear airow passages.
Dirty lters. Clean/change lters.
Wrong pile height setting. Adjust setting.
Wrong power level selected.
Adjust control.
Hole in hose. Replace hose.
Worn PowerMate
®
brushroll. Change brushroll.
Worn or broken belt.

Dirty brushroll or end caps.

Canister hood open. Close and latch hood.
Tripped overload protector in
PowerMate
®

PROTECTOR (page 14).
Remove any items that may be caught or
jammed, then restart. If vacuum cleaner starts
and stops again, clean brushroll and end caps,
then restart.
