thiswillinterrupttheoperationofABSand
mayincreasethebrakingdistance.
Ifanemergencysituationoccurs,thedrivershouldapply
fullbrakingeffortevenwhentheroadsurfaceisslippery.
ABSwillensurethatthewheelsdonotlockandthatthe
carisbroughttoahaltintheshortestpossibledistancefor
theprevailingroadsurfaceconditions.
Note:Onsoftsurfacessuchaspowderysnow,sand
orgravel,thebrakingdistanceproducedbytheABS
systemmaybegreaterthanthatforanon-ABSsystem,
evenimprovedsteeringwouldbeexperienced.Thisis
becausethenaturalactionoflockedwheelsonsoft
surfacesistobuildupawedgeofmaterialinfrontof
thetyrecontactpatch.Thiseffectassiststhecarto
stop.
Nomatterhowhardyoubrake,youarestillableto
continuesteeringthevehicleasnormal.
IMPORTANT
ABScannotreliablymakeupforthedriver's
mis-operationorlackofexperience.
ABSMalfunctionIndicatorLamp
Referto"WarningLightsandIndicators"in"Instruments
andControls"chapter.
Note:Thenormal(non-ABS)brakingsystemremains
fullyoperationalandisnotaffectedbypartialor
fulllossofABS.However,thebrakingdistancesmay
increase.
