4. After the component has turned off, press REVERSE and wait 2 seconds.
Repeat this step until the component turns back on.
5. To nish, press and hold the STOP button until the light on the remote control
turns off.
Note: To stop the automatic code search without programming any components,
press and hold HOME•CLEAR until the light on the remote turns off.
Using direct entry
1. Turn on the component you want to program your remote control to operate
(such as a VCR)
2. Look up the brand and code number(s) for the component in the code list
starting on page 8.
3. Press and hold the component button on your remote control that corresponds
to the component you want the remote to operate. For example, if you’re
programming the remote to operate your VCR, press the VCR button.
4. Using the number buttons on your remote control, enter the component code
you looked up on the code list.
5. Release the component button.
6. Point the remote at the component. Press the ON•OFF button to see if the
component turns off. If it doesn’t, try pressing the component button and then
the ON•OFF button again.
7. If the component still doesn’t turn off, repeat these steps with the next code
listed for your brand and component until the component responds to the
remote control.
Note: The remote may not operate all models of all brands.
How to use the remote control once you’ve programmed it
Once you’ve successfully programmed your remote control, you can use it to
operate your other electronic components.
1. Press the button on your remote control that corresponds to the component
you want the remote to operate. For example, if you’re using the remote to
operate your VCR, press the VCR button.
2. Press the ON•OFF button to turn the component on or off.
3. Use the buttons on your remote control that apply to the component you’re
operating. For example, if you’re operating your VCR, you can use buttons
such as PLAY, REVERSE, and FORWARD.
Note: If the component you’re trying to operate doesn’t respond to your remote
control, it may be because the remote is in the wrong mode. Try pressing the
correct component button again to put the remote in the right mode.
