Connecting a Weighing Instrument to WP1
Instructions for connecting an analog Sartorius platform model CAPP, CAPS, IU or IF,
or a commercially available strain-gauge load cell as WP1.
! The load cell should be connected only by a trained and authorized Sartorius technician. Any
installation work that does not conform to the instructions in this manual will result in for-
feiture of all claims under the manufacturer's warranty.
! Disconnect the equipment from power (unplug from the wall socket) before beginning any
installation work.
§ Set up the weighing platform (see the operating instructions for the weighing platform)
§ Lay the cable for connecting the weighing platform to the indicator
§ Open the Combics indicator:
remove the four cap nuts from the front panel and remove the panel.
§ Connecting the wires inside the indicator:
! An IP67-protected cable gland is installed on the indicator at the factory.
Please use extreme caution when performing any work on the equipment that affects this
cable gland. Use a torque wrench and tighten the cable gland to 5 Nm.
– Expose approx. 14 cm (5.5 in) of the cable end for installation
– Remove all but approx. 2 cm (< 1 in) of the shielding and fold it back over the casing
– Strip the casing from approximately 5 mm (1/2 in) of the wires and attach ferrules to the
wire ends.
– Slide the cable gland over the cable until the clamps (2) are in contact with the shield (1)
– Tighten the nut (3) until the seal (4) between the nut and the cable forms a slight ridge
between nut and cable.
– Make sure the shield is in contact with the clamps.
