● Gearbox housing, chassis and hoes
can be cleaned using a water jet or
high-pressure cleaner.
12.3 Engine
Maintenance interval:
Before each use
● Check the engine oil level (see engine
instruction manual)
● Check the oil level in the oil bath air filter
(see engine instruction manual)
Observe the operating and maintenance
instructions contained in the attached
engine instruction manual.
12.4 Gearbox
Maintenance interval:
Before each use:
● Check the oil level in the gearbox
After the first month or after 20
operating hours:
● Change the gearbox oil.
Every 6 months or after 100 operating
hours:
● Change the gearbox oil.
Checking the oil level in the gearbox:
● Place the machine in the cleaning or
maintenance position. (Ö 12.2)
● Open the gearbox oil cap. (Ö 7.14)
● Insert STIHL special service tool
(5910 890 2415) into the oil filler neck
diagonally from above as far as it will
go.
Tip of special service tool wet:
Oil level in gearbox OK
Tip of special service tool not wet:
Top up oil (Ö 7.14)
Changing the gearbox oil:
● Place the machine in the cleaning or
maintenance position.(Ö 12.2)
● Place a suitable oil collecting container
under the machine.
● Open the gearbox oil cap. (Ö 7.14)
● Open oil drain plug (1) and allow all the
gearbox oil to drain.
● Screw in oil drain plug (1). (20 - 25 Nm)
● Fill in new gearbox oil. (Ö 7.14)
12.5 Service intervals
Maintenance by the specialist dealer:
For private use, annually
Maintenance of the tiller should be
performed by a specialist dealer. STIHL
recommends STIHL specialist dealers.
Avoid damage to the machine!
When using a high-pressure
cleaner, maintain a distance of at
least 1 m and never direct the
water jet directly at bearing points,
drive shaft or seals – especially the
seal between the gearbox housing
and guard plate.
Avoid damage to the machine!
Always have the gearbox
maintained by a specialist dealer.
