To reduce the risk of fire and burn
injury, use only spark plugs
authorized by STIHL. Always press
spark plug boot (2) snugly onto
spark plug terminal (1) of the proper
size. (Note: If terminal has
detachable SAE adapter nut, it must
be attached.)
A loose connection between spark
plug boot and ignition wire
connector in the boot may create
arcing that could ignite combustible
fumes and cause a fire.
The starter rope is subject to normal
wear and tear. To prolong its service
life, please observe the following
points:
: Pull out the rope only in the direction
specified.
: Do not pull the rope sideways
against the edge of the guide bush.
: Do not pull out the rope further than
specified – if might otherwise break.
: Do not let the starter grip snap back
– guide it slowly and vertically into
the housing so that the starter rope
can rewind properly.

Always replace a damaged starter rope
in good time or have it replaced by your
STIHL dealer.
Replacing Starter Rope / Rewind
Spring
: Remove the shroud.
: Unscrew the oil tank filler cap and
drain the tank.
: Unscrew the fuel tank filler cap and
drain the tank.
Always keep chain oil and fuel mix
in approved safety-type canisters.
: Remove screws from fan housing
and hand guard.
: Lift away the fan housing.
: Tension the starter rope or rewind
spring or replace as necessary.
