RIDING TIPS
STARTING THE ENGINE
Before attempting to start the
engine, make sure:
The transmission is in neutral.
The engine stop switch is in
the “” position.
NOTE: This motorcycle has inter-
lock system for the ignition circuit
and the starter circuit. The engine
can only be started if:
The transmission is in neutral
and the clutch is disengaged,
or
The transmission is in gear,
the side stand is fully up, and
the clutch is disengaged.
NOTE: The fuel supply system
stops the engine when the motor-
cycle is overturned. Turn off the
ignition switch before restarting
the engine.
When the Engine is Cold:
1. Close the throttle completely.
2. Squeeze the clutch lever and
push the electric starter
switch.
When the Engine is Warm:
Close the throttle completely and
push the electric starter switch.
When a Warm Engine is Hard to
Start:
Open the throttle 1/8 to 1/4 turn
and push the electric starter
switch.
NOTICE
If the neutral indicator light and
the gear position indicator are
not giving proper indications,
starting the engine can cause
serious engine damage.
Before starting the engine,
make sure of the followings:
When the neutral indicator
light comes on, the gear
position indicator should
indicate “0” (Neutral).
When the neutral indicator
light goes off, the gear posi-
tion indicator should indicate
either “1”, “2”, “3”, “4” or
“5”.
If the neutral indicator light
and the gear position indica-
tor are not working properly,
consult your Suzuki dealer.
