Carefullyexaminethebladeforsharpnessandwear,
especiallywheretheatandthecurvedpartsmeet
(Figure29A).Becausesandandabrasivematerialcan
wearawaythemetalthatconnectstheatandcurved
partsoftheblade,checkthebladebeforeusingthe
lawnmower.Ifyounoticeaslotorwear(Figure29B
and
Figure29C),replacetheblade;refertoRemoving
theBlade.

Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,andapiece
ofthebladecouldbethrownintotheoperator’s
orbystander’sarea,resultinginseriouspersonal

•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
RemovingtheBlade
Grasptheendofthebladeusingaragorathickly
paddedglove.Removethebladebolt,thelockwasher,
theaccelerator,andtheblade(Figure28).
SharpeningtheBlade
Filethetopsideofthebladetomaintainitsoriginal
cuttingangle(Figure30A)andinnercuttingedgeradius
(Figure30B).Thebladewillremainbalancedifyou
removethesameamountofmaterialfrombothcutting
edges.
