Valve clearance
NOTICE! Before adjusting valve clearance, allow the
engine to cool for at least 30 min. The oil temperature
should not exceed 80°C (176°F).
Checking
1 Remove crankcase ventilation oil-trap housing(A).
2 Remove the cylinder head cover.
3 Position crankshaft as in the figure at the bottom of
this page.
4 Check valve clearance (1) between rocker arm /
tappet contact face (2) and valve steam (3) with a
feeler gauge (6) (there should only be slight
resistance when blade is inserted). For data on
valve clearance, see Engines.
Adjusting
1 Release locknut (4).
2 Turn the adjustment screw (5) to obtain correct
valve clearance.
3 Tighten lock nut (4).
4 Reinstall cylinder head with a new gasket if
necessary.
5 Refit crankcase ventilation oil-trap housing.
