Storage
Laying Up (Winterization)
Be sure that your Volvo Penta equipment is properly
prepared for long or short term storage. Engine or drive
damage can result if some simple maintenance steps
are overlooked prior to storage. Winterizing gives you
the assurance that your engine will be protected during
storage and will run more reliably when you put your
boat back in the water.
Short Term Storage
Up to two months:
Flush engine with fresh water.
Raw Water Cooled Engines Only: Drain raw
water from manifolds and engine block. See
information on draining the engine in the section
entitled Engine Shutdown: Draining Raw Water
Cooled Engines.
Closed Cooing Engines Only: Drain raw water
from manifolds. Do not drain the engine
block! See information on draining the engine in
the section entitled Engine Shutdown: Draining
Raw Water Side of Closed Cooling System
Engines.
Store battery as recommended by manufacturer.
Add fuel stabilizer; please refer to Ethanol-
Blended Fuels (E10) in the chapter entitled Tech-
nical Data.
