CLEANING DECK
Cleanundersideof the mowerdeckonce aseasonto preventbuild-up
ofgrassclippingsor otherdebris.Followstepsbelowfor thisjob.
1. Disconnectsparkplugwire.Runengineuntilit stopsfromlackof
fuel.
2. Tip mowersothat it restson the housing,keepingthemufflerside
down.Referbackto Figure13.Holdmowerfirmly.
Nevertip themowermorethan900inanydirectionanddo not leave
the mowertippedfor any lengthof time. Oilcandrainintotheupper
partof the enginecausinga startingproblem.
3. Scrapeandcleantheundersideofthedeckwithasuitabletool.Donot
spraywithwater.
IMPORTANT:Donotusea pressurewasheror gardenhosetoclean
yourunit.Thesemaycausedamageto bearings,orthe engine.The
useof waterwill resultin shortenedlife andreduceserviceability.
4. Putthemowerbackon itswheelsontheground.

BLADE CARE
Whenremovingthe cuttingbladeforsharpeningor replacement,
protectyourhandswitha pairofheavyglovesoruse a heavyragto
holdtheblade.
Periodicallyinspectthebladeadapterforcracks,especiallyifyou
strikea foreignobject. Replacewhennecessary.Followthe steps
belowfor bladeservice.
1. Disconnectsparkplugbootfromsparkplug.Turnmoweron its
sidemakingsurethattheair filterandthecarburetorarefacing
up.
2. Removetheboltandthe bladebellsupportwhichholdthe blade
andthebladeadapterto theenginecrankshaft.SeeFigure15.
3. Removebladeandadapterfromthecrankshaft.
4. Removebladefromtheadapterfortestingbalance.Balancethe
bladeon a roundshaft screwdrivertocheck.Removemetalfrom
theheavysideuntilit balancesevenly.Whensharpeningthe
blade,followthe originalangleof grind.Grindeachcuttingedge
equallyto keepthe bladebalanced.
An unbalancedbladewill causeexcessivevibrationwhenrotatingat
highspeeds.Itmaycausedamageto mowerandcouldbreakcausin(
personalinjury.
5. Lubricatetheenginecrankshaftandtheinnersurfaceoftheblade
adapterwithlightoil.Slidethebladeadapterontothe engine
crankshaft.Placethebladeon the adaptersuchthatthe sideof
theblademarked"Bottom"(orwithpart number)facestheground
whenthe moweris in the operatingposition.Makesurethatthe
bladeisalignedandseatedon thebladeadapterflanges.
6. Placebladebellsupporton theblade.Alignnotchesonthe blade
bellsupportwithsmallholesin blade.
7. Replacehex boltandtightenhexboltto torque:450in. Ibs.rain.,
600 in. Ibs.max.
Toensuresafeoperationof yourmower,periodicallycheckthe blade
boltfor correcttorque.
