STARTING THE ENGINE
Donotoperatethe tractorifthe interlocksystemis malfunctioning.
Thissystemwasdesignedfor yoursafetyandprotection.
NOTE: Refertothe Gasolineand Oilfill-upinstructionsearlierinthis
section.
1. Insertthe tractorkeyintotheignitionswitch.
2. Placethe PTO(BladeEngage)leverinthe disengaged(OFF)
position.
3. Engagethetractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethe chokecontrolbymovingthethrottle/chokeleverall
thewayup intothe chokeposition.
5. Turntheignitionkeyclockwiseto theSTARTposition.Afterthe
enginestarts,releasethe key.It will returnto theON (orNormal
Mowing)position.
DO NOTholdthekeyintheSTARTpositionfor longerthanten
secondsat a time.Doingso maycausedamageto yourengine's
electricstarter.
6. Afterthe enginestarts,deactivatethe chokecontroland placethe
throttlecontrolinthe FASTposition.
NOTE: DoNOTleavethechokecontrolonwhileoperatingthe tractor.
Doingsowill resultina "rich"fuel mixtureandcausetheengineto run
poorly.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
If youstrikea foreignobject,stoptheengine,disconnectthe spark
plugwire(s)andgroundagainsttheengine.Thoroughlyinspectthe
machinefor anydamage.Repairthe damagebeforerestartingand
operating
1. Ifthe bladesareengaged,placethe PTO(BladeEngage)leverin
thedisengaged(OFF)position.
2. Turntheignitionkeycounterclockwisetothe STOPposition.
3. Removethe keyfromthe ignitionswitchto preventunintended
starting.
DRIVING THE TRACTOR
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedandsuddenstops.
Donotleavethe seatof thetractorwithoutfirstplacingthe PTO
(BladeEngage)leverinthedisengaged(OFF)position,depressing
Ithe brakepedalandengagingthe parkingbrake.Ifleavingthe tractor
unattended,alsoturnthe ignitionkeyoffand removethe key.
Alwayslookdownandbehindbeforeandwhilebackingupto avoida
back-overaccident.
1. Movethethrottleleverintothe FAST(rabbit)position.
NOTE:Alwaysoperatethe tractorwiththethrottle/chokecontrollever
in theFAST(rabbit)positionforthe mostefficientuseof the cutting
deckor other(separatelyavailable)attachments.
2. Releasethe parkingbrakeby depressingthe brakepedal
3. Positionthe speedcontrolleverindesiredposition.Thefurther
forwardor rearwardthattheleverismoved,thefasterthetractor
willtravel.
DoNOTattempttochangethe directionof travelwhenthe tractor
is inmotion.Alwaysbringthetractorto a completestopbefore
movingthespeedcontrolleverfromforwardto reverseorvice versa.
Failureto dosocouldresultinseriousdamagetoyourtractor's
transmission.
iMPORTANT:First-timeoperatorsshoulduseslowerspeeds.
Becomecompletelyfamiliarwiththetractor'soperationandcontrols
beforeoperatingthetractorinathigherspeed.
4. The lawntractorisbroughtto a stopby depressingthe brake
pedal.
5. Set theparkingbrakeby fullydepressingthe brakepedaland
keepingitdepressedwhileplacingthe parkingbrakeleverinthe
ONposition.Releasethebrakepedalto allowthe parkingbrake
toengage.
Beforeleavingtheoperator'spositionfor anyreason,disengagethe
blades,placethespeedcontrolleverin neutral,engagethe parking
brake,shutengineoff andremovethekey.
• Mowupanddownslopes,NEVERacross.
• Exerciseextremecautionwhenchangingdirectionon slopes.
• Watchfor holes,ruts,bumps,rocks,orother hiddenobjects.
Uneventerraincouldoverturnthemachine.Tallgrasscanhide
obstacles.
• Avoidturnswhendrivingon a slope.If a turnmustbe made,turn
downtheslope.Turningupa slopegreatlyincreasesthe chance
ofa rollover.
iMPORTANT:Whenstoppingthetractorforany reasonwhile ona
grasssurface,always:
1. Placethespeedcontrolleverin N (neutral),
2. Engagethe parkingbrake,
3. Shutengineoffand removethe key.
Doingso willminimizethe possibilityofhavingyourlawn"browned"by
hotexhaustfromyourtractor'srunningengine.
DRIVING ON SLOPES
Refertothe SLOPEGAUGEinthe ImportantSafeOperationPractices
sectionofthe manualto helpdetermineslopeswhereyou mayoperate
thetractorsafely.
Donotmowon inclineswitha slopeinexcessof 15degrees(a rise
ofapproximately2-1/2feetevery10feet).The tractorcouldoverturn
andcauseseriousinjury.
