Neverstorelawntractorwithfuelintankindoorsorin poorly
ventilatedareaswherefuel fumesmayreachan openflame,spark,
orpilotlightasona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryer,or gas
appliance.
PREPARING THE ENGINE
IMPORTANT:Fuelleftin thefuel tankduringwarmweatherdeterio-
ratesandwill causeseriousstartingproblems.
Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidetheengine'scarburetor
andcausingpossiblemalfunctionof theengine,thefuel systemmust
be eithercompletelyemptied,orthe gasolinemustbe treatedwitha
stabilizerto preventdeterioration.
1. Ifusingafuel stabilizer:
a. Readthe productmanufacturer'sinstructionsandrecom-
mendations.
b. Addtoclean,freshgasolinethe correctamountofstabilizer
forthe capacityof thefuel system.
c. Fillthefueltankwithtreatedfuelandrunthe enginefor 2-3
minutesto getstabilizedfuel intothecarburetor.
2. Ifemptyingthe fuel system:
a. Donotdrainfuel whenthe engineishot.Allowtheengine
adequatetimetocool.Drainfuelintoanapprovedcontainer
outdoors,awayfromopenflame.
b. Drainany largevolumeof fuelfromthetank bydisconnect-
ing thefuellinefromthe in-linefuel filterneartheengine.

Gasolineis extremelyflammableandcan beexplosiveundercertain
conditions.Draingasolinebeforestoringthe equipmentfor extended
periods.Drainfuel only intoanapprovedcontaineroutdoors,away
froman openflame.Allowengineto cool.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipes,andothersourcesofignitionpriortodrainingfuel.
Storegasolineinan approvedcontainerinsafelocation.
c. Reconnectthefuel lineandrunthe engineuntilit startsto
falter,thenusethechoketo keeptheenginerunninguntilall
fuelin thecarburetorhasbeenexhausted.
d. Disconnectthefuellineanddrainany remaininggasoline
fromthesystem.
DRAiNiNG THE FUEL
1. Locatethefuel filter,whichislocatedonthe leftsideof the
engine,andmaybe attachedto the enginewitha tie strap.
2. Cutthetie strap,if present,then pinchthein-lineclamponthe
fuelfilterwitha pairof pliers,slidethe clampupthe fuelline.
3. Pullthefuel linefreefromthefilterandplacetheopenendofthe
lineintoanapprovedcontainertodrainthefuel.
PREPARING THE LAWN TRACTOR
1. Cleanandlubricatetractorthoroughlyas describedinthe lubrica-
tioninstructions.
2. Donotusea pressurewasheror gardenhoseto cleanyour unit.
3. Storemowerin a dry,cleanarea. Do notstorenextto corrosive
materials,suchas fertilizer.
Gasolineis a toxicsubstance.Disposeof gasolineproperly.Contact
yourlocalauthoritiesfor approveddisposalmethods.
3. Removethesparkplugandpourone(1)ounceof engineoil
throughthesparkplugholeintothe cylinder.Cranktheengine
severaltimestodistributethe oil. Replacethe sparkplug.
