Attaching the Battery Cables
CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65
Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknowntothe Stateof Californiato
causecancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
Whenattaching battery cables,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE(Red)wire to its
terminal first, followed bythe NEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycablesonyourequipmenthavebeenleft
disconnectedfromtheterminalsat thefactory.Toconnectthe batterycables,
proceedasfollows:
NOTE:ThepositivebatteryterminalismarkedPos.(+).Thenegativebattery
terminalismarkedNeg.(-).
1. Removetheplasticcover,ifpresent,fromthepositivebatteryterminaland
attachtheredcabletothepositivebatteryterminal(+) with theboltand
hexnut.SeeFigure1.
2. Removetheplasticcover,ifpresent,fromthenegativebatteryterminaland
attachtheblackcableto thenegativebatteryterminal(-) with theboltand
hexnut.SeeFigure1.

chargethe batteryasinstructedin theService& Maintenancesectionof this
manualpriortooperatingthetractor.
Shipping BraceRemoval
Makesurethe riding mower'sengineisoff, removethe ignitionkey,and
setthe parkingbrakebefore removingthe shippingbrace.Referto the
Operatonsectonfor nstructonsonhowtoset the parkng brake.
Locatetheshippingbrace,if present,andaccompanyingwarningtagfound
ontherightsideof themower,betweenthedischargechutedeflectorand
thecuttingdeck.SeeFigure2.

Placethedecklift leverin thehighestcutting position.RefertoSettingthe
CuttingHeightintheOperationsectionof thismanual.
Whilepushingthedischargechutedeflectortowardsthemachinewithyourleft
hand,removetheshippingbracewithyourrighthandbygraspingitbetweenyour
thumbandindexfingerandrotatingitclockwise.
Theshippingbrace,usedfor packagingpurposesonly,must beremovedand
discardedbefore operatingyour ridingmower.
Themowingdeckiscapableof throwing objects. Failureto operatethe
Iridingmowerwithout the dischargechutedeflector inthe properoperating
[positioncouldresultinseriouspersonalinjuryand/orpropertydamage.
Attaching TheSteeringWheel
Ifthesteeringwheelforyourtractordid notcomeattached,thehardwarefor
attachingit hasbeenpackedwithin thesteeringwheel,beneaththesteeringwheel
cap.Carefullypryoffthe steeringwheelcapandremovethehardware.
I. Withthewheelsof thetractorpointingstraightforward,placethesteering
wheeloverthesteeringshaft.
2. Placethewasher(withthecuppedsidedown)overthesteeringwheeland
securewith thehexbolt.SeeFigure3.
