NOTE: The hard drive bracket, rubber frame, and cable are included in the Hard Drive Hardware Kit, spare
part number 802471-001. See
Mass storage devices on page 15 for more information on the Hard Drive
Hardware Kit.

Before removing the battery, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see
Battery on page 23).
5. Remove the memory cover (see
Memory cover on page 24).
6. Remove the bottom cover (see
Base enclosure on page 26).
Remove the hard drive:
1. Disconnect the hard drive cable from the system board (1).
2. Remove the hard drive (2) from the hard drive bay.
3. If it is necessary to disassemble the hard drive, perform the following steps:
a. Position the hard drive with the hard drive connector adapter toward you.
b. Disconnect the hard drive connector (1) from the hard drive.
The hard drive bracket, rubber frame, and cable are available in the Hard Drive Hardware Kit, spare
part number 802471-001.
