Summary of Changes for SC26-7915-02 IBM System Storage
DS8000 User’s Guide
This document contains terminology, maintenance, and editorial changes. Technical
changes or additions to the text and illustrations are indicated by a vertical line to
the left of the change. This summary of changes describes new functions that have
been added to this release. Note: In this edition, the brand “IBM TotalStorage”
has been replaced with “IBM System Storage”.
New Information
As of Release 3 and all follow on releases, the stand-alone version of the DS
Storage Manager can only be installed as the simulated DS Storage Manager and
will only operate in Simulated-mode. Real-time mode is no longer supported or
included for the stand-alone version.
If your installation is at a release prior to Release 3, you can still access the
real-time DS Storage Manager with your remote browser by pointing your browser
at the hardware management console (HMC).
If your installation is at Release 3, the real-time DS Storage Manager is only
accessible through the console at the HMC or through the IBM System Storage
Productivity Center. Accessing the real-time DS Storage Manager at the HMC or
through the IBM System Storage Productivity Center helps to eliminate confusion
when you use the simulated DS Storage Manager.
Here are some things to consider as a result of this change:
v You do not need to perform a stand-alone installation to use the real-time DS
Storage Manager.
v You must manually enter the URL for the DS Storage Manager into the browser
on the HMC and create your own bookmarks, or you must provide the IBM
System Storage Productivity Center Element Manager with the information for
the HMC to access the real-time DS Storage Manager.
v You do not need to install the stand-alone simulated DS Storage Manager unless
you intend to use it.
v You can import data from the HMC to a stand-alone simulated DS Storage
manager using the Import action on the simulated DS Storage Manager.
v You can use the simulated DS Storage Manager to create an initial configuration
file that can be applied to the HMC.
Attention: The simulated DS Storage Manager is designed to assist you in
creating an initial configuration for your system. Do not attempt to upload a
configuration file if your system has already been configured.
The
following new information is introduced in chapter 1:
v New DS8000 series models that are available. The new base models are Models
931, 932, and 9B2. See “Overview of the DS8000 series models” on page 1 for
more information.
v The IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center for Disk. See “IBM TotalStorage
Productivity Center for Disk” on page 13 for more information.
