If a concealed gas connection is required prepare the pipework prior to sliding fire into the recess.
Concealed gas connection - Remove one of the knockouts at rear or side of box to allow an 8mm
gas inlet pipe to enter the appliance. The rear is generally easier to align with the supplied isolation
elbow.
Ensure sufficient length of pipe to allow connection.
The supplied rubber sealing grommet MUST be fitted to seal the gas pipe to the fire box.
Fit the sealing strip provided along the top edge and up the 2 sides of the firebox flange. It should be
positioned on the flange sufficiently towards the outside edge so that an effective seal can be
achieved when the fire box is finally positioned in the opening. Alternatively a water based mastic
can be used to seal the firebox to the opening.
Fitting the Firebox - Base Fixing
Position the firebox in the fireplace opening. For a concealed gas connection, the gas supply pipe
should be fitted through the knockout at the rear or sides of the fire box. Ensure pipework allows for
the removal of the fire box.
If the gas pipe is to be brought in from the front over the hearth ensure that the pipe does not foul
the fire front and/or the ash pan cover. To achieve this the pipe should be installed as close to the
floor as possible as it enters the fire box.
Mark the positions of the securing holes in the base. Remove the fire then drill and plug the holes.
Carefully slide the firebox back into the fireplace opening ensuring that a seal is formed behind the
frame of the firebox such that the only air which can reach the flue must travel through the front of
the firebox and up through the fume outlets.
Whilst pushing the fire up to the surround to form a seal, insert and tighten the screws into the
previously plugged holes.
Check there are no gaps behind the seal.
Fit the decorative trim using the 4 magnets - 2 at the top corners and 1 at each bottom leg of trim.
Fitting the Firebox - Cable Fixing
NOTE:- when drilling and plugging never use plastic rawlplugs always use the fibre rawlplugs
supplied.
Mark the position of the holes for the 4 eye bolts using the positions shown in Fig. 4. It is important
that the holes are symmetrical about the centre line to ensure that the firebox pulls back centrally
when tensioning the cables. Drill and plug the holes with the rawlplugs provided and screw in the
eye bolts.
Position the firebox in the fireplace opening. For concealed gas connection, the gas supply pipe
should be fitted through the knockout at the rear or sides of the fire box.
From the rear thread the wire cables through the top fixing holes in the firebox body. One each side.
Then thread the cables through the upper eye bolts and then the lower eye bolts. Return through the
lower holes in the back of the firebox body. (See Fig. 5)
Push the fire up to the surround to form a seal and ensure that it is centrally located. Pull the cables
taught and slide a threaded adjuster over each of the wires, ensuring that the nuts are fully wound
back to allow for max adjustment during tensioning. Then slide a cable retainer over each of the
cables. (See Fig. 3) While pulling the cable taught push the adjuster and retainer hard up against the
inside of the box, locating in the holes. Tighten the screws in the retainers so that they clamp the
cables in position. Apply tension to the cable adjusters by turning the tensioning nut to pull the fire
against the wall. Do not over tighten. Check the seal has compressed such that the flanges are
against the rear wall and there are no gaps behind the seal. Ensure that any spare cable is left
neatly coiled.
Fit the decorative trim using the 4 magnets - 2 at the top corners and 1 at each bottom leg of trim.
