3.6.3 Fuel System Bleed
Bleed air from the fuel system in order to reduce rough running or vapor lock. Trapped air in the fuel system can cause difficult
starting and erratic engine operation.
Prime the fuel system under the following conditions:
• Before starting the engine for the first time.
• After running out of fuel and adding fuel to the tank.
• After fuel system maintenance such as changing the fuel filter, draining the fuel/water separator, or replacing a fuel
system component.
Note:
Connect the battery during the priming procedure to allow engine cranking.
Note:
Have a rag handy during this procedure. Wipe up any spilled diesel fuel. Wash hands after any contact with fuel.
Note:
Dispose of all waste materials (engine oil, fuel, filter, etc.) in an environmentally safe manner and in accordance with all applicable
laws.
