Air Cleaner and Air Intake System
Air Cleaner
This engine is equipped with a replaceable, high
density paper air cleaner. An optional foam precleaner
may also be included. See Figure 4-1. Intake air is
drawn in through the blower housing, and passes
through the precleaner (if equipped), the paper
element and then into the carburetor. The outer air
cleaner cover is secured by one knob, and removed by
turning the knob counterclockwise.
Check the air cleaner assembly daily or before
starting the engine. Check for any buildup of dirt and
debris, as well as loose or damaged components. See
Figure 4-1.
NOTE: Operating the engine with loose or damaged

of detergent are eliminated. Squeeze out excess
water (do not wring), and allow the precleaner to
air dry.
4. Reinstall the precleaner.
5. Reinstall the air cleaner cover and tighten the
knob securely.
