Combustion air requirements
The combustion air must be free from water
spray, dust, oil mist and exhaust gases.
The air ventilation fans shoud be designed to
maintain a positive air pressure of 50 Pa (5
mmWC) in the auxiliary engine room in all run-
ning conditions.
The combustion air is normally taken from the
engine room through a filter fitted on the turbo-
charger.
In tropical service a sufficient volume of air must
be supplied to the turbocharger(s) at outside air
temperature. For this purpose there must be an air
duct installed for each turbocharger, with the outlet
of the duct facing the respective intake air silencer.
No water of condensation from the air duct must be
allowed to be drawn in by the turbocharger.
In arctic service the air must be heated to at least
5°C. If necessary air preheaters must be provided.
Ventilator capacity
The capacity of the air ventilators must be large
enough to cover:
The combustion air requirements of all consum-
ers.
The air required for carrying off the heat emis-
sion.
See "List of Capacities" section D 10 05 0
for infor-
mation about required combustion air quantity and
heat emission.
For minimum requirements concerning engine room
ventilation see applicable standards such as ISO
8861.
