Starting-off aid
Only activate the starting-off aid on snow and
ice-covered roads.
The vehicle's starting-off aid has either a
speed limiter or a time limit (switch-on inter-
lock).
R
The
starting-off aid with speed limiter auto-
matically switches off at a vehicle speed of
above 30 km/h. The starting-off aid can
only be activated again when the speed
falls below 30km/h.
R
The starting-off aid with switch-on interlock
switches off automatically after
90 seconds. After 50 seconds, the starting-
off aid with switch-on interlock can be reac-
tivated.
R
The starting-off aid without switch-on inter-
lock is deactivated automatically after
120 seconds and can be reactivated imme-
diately thereafter.
X
To activate starting-off aid: press the
å button.
As long as the starting-off aid is activated,
the å indicator lamp in the status area
of the on-board computer lights up yellow.
X
To deactivate the starting-off aid man-
ually: press and hold the ¤ button on
the instrument panel or the T button on
the control panel.
Leading/trailing axle
H
Environmental note
When the leading/trailing axle is raised, roll
resistance
is reduced. This reduces tyre wear
and fuel consumption.
The leading/trailing axle is lowered just
before the permissible axle load is reached.
Observe the notes in the "Axle loads and
wheel
loads" section (Y page 261) and those
on the vehicle identification plate
(Y page 414).
On vehicles for the transportation of bulk
cargo, weight can only be taken off the trailing
axle and it cannot be raised.
Vehicles with a steerable trailing axle
(Y page 292): when you raise the additional
axle, the wheels move into the straight-ahead
position. When you lower the additional axle,
the wheels again steer actively.
X
Switch the ignition lock to the drive posi-
tion.
X
If the reservoir pressure in the
compressed-air system is too low, run the
engine.
X
If the vehicle is empty or only partially
laden, raise the leading/trailing axle before
pulling away.
X
Vehicles with a rear loading crane: observe
the information in the manufacturer's oper-
ating instructions before raising the lead-
ing/trailing axle.
