A die-cast aluminum crankcase with Silitec cylinder
liners is used in the new M 279 AMG.
The bore and cylinder spacing of the M 275 AMG
have been preserved. The compression ratio ε is
9.
0.
The
crankcase and the timing case contain a
number
of ducts and lines for carrying the
various media (pressurized
oil, coolant, air, oil
return
ducts). The crankcase is a bedplate design
with individual bolt-on main bearing caps made of
cast steel.

The engine number is impressed in the center of
the bottom of the crankcase (bedplate).
