5.3.2 Disinfection Procedure
1. Selectanappropriatehigh-leveldisinfectanttodisinfecttheprobe.Followthe
manufacturer'sinstructionstousethehigh-leveldisinfectant.Prepareadisinfectantby
usingsteriledistilledorsoftenedwaterwhennecessary.
2. Selectanappropriatemethod:
– Soaking:Soaktheprobeinthedisinfectantsolutionandshaketheprobeproperly
toremovebubblesonthesurfaceoftheprobe.Fortheprobesoakingduration,see
thedisinfectantmanufacturer'sinstructions.
Onlythesectionfromdistalendtothe100cmmarker (70cmforpediatricTEE
probe)ontheflexibleshaftcanbeimmersedinthedisinfectantsolution.The
handle,cableandconnectorcanonlybedisinfectedwithawrungoutsoftcloth
moistenedwithdisinfectants.
– Wiping:Useacommerciallyavailabledisinfectingwipe,oradisposablesterilelint-
freesoftclothsoakedwithadisinfectingspraytowipeanddisinfectallsurfacesof
theprobethoroughlyforthetimespeciedinthemanufacturer'sinstructions.
3. Rinsetheprobeinsertionpartthoroughlywithplentyofcleanowingwater(about7
.
5L)
atroomtemperatureforabout1minutetoremovetheresidualdirtanddisinfectants.
Orfollowtherinsingmethodspeciedbythemanufacturer.Usemoistenedsoftcloth
towipetheresidualdisinfectantsonthehandle,cable,andconnector.
4. Drytheprobewithadisposablelint-freesoftclothortissue.Donotdrytheprobeby
heating.
5. Checkwhethertheprobehasdefectssuchaspeeling,rifts,bumps,cracks,orliquid
spill.Ifsuchdefectsexist,theprobehasreachedtheendofitsservicelife.Inthis
case,stopusingitandcontacttheMindrayservicedepartment.
6. Storetheprobeinacoolanddryenvironment.
CAUTION
●
The lens may be discolored; the label on the transducer may fade. These are not
abnormalities.
●
Repeated disinfection will eventually damage the transducer, please check the
transducer’s performance periodically.
●
Disinfecting incorrectly or with chemicals not recommended by Mindray will void
the warranty.
WARNING
To avoid injury to the patient, if residue from the disinfectant is not removed it can
cause irritation and/or burning of the mouth and esophageal tissue.
