?
In many countries, environmental labelling has become an established method
f
or encourag
-
ing the adaptation o
f
goods and services to the environment. The main problem, as
f
ar a
s
computers and other electronics equipment are concerned, is that environmentally harm
f
u
l
substances are used both in the products and during the manu
f
acturing. Since it has not bee
n
possible
f
or the majority o
f
electronics equipment to be recycled in a satis
f
actory way, mos
t
o
f
these potentially damaging substances sooner or later enter Nature
.
There are also other characteristics o
f
a computer, such as energy consumption levels, that ar
e
important
f
rom the viewpoints o
f
both the work (Internal) and natural (external) environments
.
Since all methods o
f
conventional electricity generation have a negative e
ff
ect on th
e
environment (acidic and climate-in
f
luencing emissions, radioactive waste, etc.), it is vital t
o
conserve energy. Electronics equipment in o
ff
ices consume an enormous amount o
f
energ
y
since they are o
