Cleaning and Storage
Storage Tips
See page 108 for the part numbers of Polaris products.
Fluid Levels
Inspect the following fluid levels and change if necessary: engine oil;
transmission oil; brake fluid (change every two years or as needed if
fluid looks dark or contaminated).
Engine
1. Re move the spark plug and pour 2-3 tablespoons of Pr emium 4
Synthetic 0W40 engine oil into the hole. Use a sec tion of clea r 1/4”
hose and a small plastic squeeze bottle fille d with the pre -me a sur ed
amount of oil. NOTE: Do this ca re fully! If you miss the plug hole,
oil will drain fr om the spark plug cavity into the hole at the front of
the cylinder head and appear to be an oil leak.
2. Reinstall the spark plug.
3. With the ignition off, turn t he engine over several times using the
recoil starter. This will ensure coverage of the piston rings,
cylinder walls and crankshaft bearings.
4. Apply diele ctr ic gre ase to the inside of the spark plug ca p and install
the ca p onto the plug.
5. Treat the fuel system with Polaris Carbon Clean.
6. If Polaris fuel system additive is not used, drain all fuel from the
fuel tank, fuel lines, and carburetor. Eliminate any fuel remaining
in the carburetor by running the engine until it stops.
Lubricate
Inspect all cables and lubricate with Polaris Cable Lubricant. Follow
lubrication guidelines in the m aintenance section of the service or
owner’s manual to completely grease and lubricate the entire vehicle
with Polari s Premium All Season Grease. Apply P olaris O-Ring Chain
Lube to the drive chain.
Storage Area/Covers
Set t he tire pressure and safely support the ATV with the tires 1-2” off
the ground. Be sure the storage area is well ventilated, and cover the
mac hine with a genuine Polaris ATV cove r. NOTE: Do not use plastic
or coa ted mate rials. They do not allow enough ventila tion to pre vent
conde nsation, and ma y promote corrosion and oxidation.
