CHAPTER 4 CONCEPTS
AND
TERMS OF BASIC
In
this
chapter
we will
examine
some
concepts
and
terms
of
the
BASIC language. Because
the
PC-3 uses
many
features
of
BASIC
when
used
as
a
calculator,
some
of
these
concepts
are also useful
for
advanced
calculator
functions.

without
worrying
about
the

that
numbers
can be
represented,
or
the

are familiar

Scientific

often
use a special
format
called
exponential

scientific notation.
In
scientific
notation,
a
number
is
broken
down
into
two
parts.
The
first
part
consists
of
a regular decimal
number
between
1 and 10.
The
second
part
represents
how
large
or
small
the
number
is
in
powers
of
10.
As
you
know,
the
first

to
the

in
a regular decimal
