Do not resharpen the blade.
► Replace the blade (1) if its length (A) is no lon‐
ger sufficient to maintain the necessary
ground clearance (B) and obtain the required
depth of cut (C).
13.1 Checking Out-of-Balance
To avoid out-of-balance:
► Have your dealer check the blade for out-of-
balance on a STIHL balancer (special acces‐
sory) – STIHL recommends an authorized
STIHL servicing dealer. If blade is out-of-bal‐
ance, fit a new one – see "Mounting the Cut‐
ting Blade".

14.1 Checking the protection against
wear

► Before starting up the machine, check that the
protection against wear (1) is not damaged
► Replace the protection against wear at the lat‐
est when the gearbox (2) becomes visible
(arrow)
NOTICE
If worn deflectors are not replaced in time, this
can cause serious damage to the gearbox.

► Remove the blade – see "Fitting the blade"
► Unscrew screws (4)
► Replace the protection against wear (5)
► Screw in and tighten screws (4)
► Fit the blade – see "Fitting the blade"
15 Maintenance and Care
The following information applies in normal oper‐
ating conditions. The specified intervals must be
shortened accordingly when working for longer
than normal or under difficult cutting conditions
(extensive dust, etc.).
All accessible screws, nuts and bolts
► check and retighten if necessary
Wheel
► Visual inspection, before starting work
► Check that the wingnut is secure, before start‐
ing work
► Have it replaced if necessary – see "Replacing
the wheel"
Skirt
► Visual inspection, before starting work
► Replace if damaged – see "Replacing the
skirt"
Blade
► Visual inspection, before starting work
► Check that it is secure, before starting work
► If necessary, have it checked to see if it is out
of balance, replace if it is out of balance – see
"Replacing the blade"
► Replace if damaged – see "Replacing the
blade"
