thoroughlycutgrassclippings,sodonotsetthe
height-of-cutsolowastosurroundthemowerinuncut
grass.Alwaystrytohave1sideofthemowerfree
fromuncutgrass,whichallowsairtobedrawninto
themower.
UsingtheSmartSpeed™Control
System
TheSmartSpeed™ControlSystemlever,located
belowtheoperatingposition,givesyouachoiceto
drivethemachineat3speedranges—high,tow,and
low.Youcanbenetfromthelowerspeedsetting
whenmaneuveringthemachineintightspacesor
operatingarounddelicatelandscapes.Youcanalso
usethelowsettingtooperatethemachineata
high-throttlesettingandbladespeedwhilestillbeing
abletoreducegroundspeedtoincreasethequality
ofcut.
CuttingaLawnfortheFirstTime
Cutthegrassslightlylongerthannormaltoensure
thatthecuttingheightofthemowerdoesnotscalp
anyunevenground.However,thecuttingheightused
inthepastisgenerallythebesttouse.Whencutting
grasslongerthan15cm(6inches)tall,youmaywant
tocutthelawntwicetoensureanacceptablequality
ofcut.
CutaThirdoftheGrassBlade
Itisbesttocutonlyabout1/3ofthegrassblade.
Cuttingmorethanthatisnotrecommendedunless
grassissparse,oritislatefallwhengrassgrows
moreslowly.
MowingDirection
Alternatethemowingdirectiontokeepthegrass
standingstraight.Thisalsohelpsdisperseclippings,
whichenhancesdecompositionandfertilization.
MowatCorrectIntervals
Normally,mowevery4days.However,grassgrows
atdifferentratesatdifferenttimes.T omaintainthe
samecuttingheight,whichisagoodpractice,mow
moreofteninearlyspring.Asthegrassgrowthrate
slowsinmidsummer,mowlessfrequently.Ifyou
cannotmowforanextendedperiod,rstmowata
highcuttingheight;thenmowagain2dayslaterata
lowerheightsetting.
AvoidCuttingTooLow
Ifthecuttingwidthofthemoweriswiderthanthe
moweryoupreviouslyused,raisethecuttingheightto
ensurethatuneventurfisnotcuttooshort.
LongGrass
Ifthegrassiseverallowedtogrowslightlylongerthan
normal,orifitcontainsahighdegreeofmoisture,
raisethecuttingheighthigherthanusualandcutthe
grassatthissetting.Thencutthegrassagainusing
thelower,normalsetting.
WhenStopping
Ifyoumuststoptheforwardmotionofthemachine
whilemowing,aclumpofgrassclippingsmaydrop
ontoyourlawn.T oavoidthis,moveontoapreviously
cutareawiththebladesengaged.
KeeptheUndersideoftheMower
Clean
Cleanclippingsanddirtfromtheundersideofthe
moweraftereachuse.Ifgrassanddirtbuildupinside
themower,thecuttingqualityeventuallybecomes
unsatisfactory.
BladeMaintenance
Maintainasharpbladethroughoutthecuttingseason,
becauseasharpbladecutscleanlywithouttearingor
shreddingthegrassblades.T earingandshredding
turnsgrassbrownattheedges,whichslowsgrowth
andincreasesthechanceofdisease.Checkthe
cutterbladesdailyforsharpnessandforanywearor
damage.Filedownanynicksandsharpentheblades
asnecessary.Ifabladeisdamagedorworn,replace
itimmediatelywithagenuineTororeplacementblade.
