Blades
Maintainsharpbladesthroughoutthecuttingseason,
becausesharpbladescutcleanlywithouttearingor
shreddingthegrassblades.T earingandshredding
thegrassturnsitbrownattheedges,whichslows
growthandincreasesthechanceofdisease.
Checkthecuttingbladesdailyforsharpnessandfor
anywearordamage.Filedownanynicksandsharpen
thebladesasnecessary.Ifabladeisdamagedor
worn,replaceitimmediatelywithagenuineT oro
replacementblade.Forconvenientsharpeningand
replacement,keepextrabladesonhand.
WARNING
Awornordamagedbladecanbreakanda
pieceofthebladecouldbethrownatyou
orbystanders,resultinginseriouspersonal
injuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
BeforeInspectingorServicingthe
Blades
Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengagethe
blade-controlswitch,movethemotion-controllevers
outwardtothePARKposition,shutofftheengine,and
removethekey.
InspectingtheBlades
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Check
thecuttingblades.
1.Inspectthecuttingedges(Figure44).

nicks,removeandsharpentheblades;referto
SharpeningtheBlades(page43).
2.Inspecttheblades,especiallythecurvedarea
(Figure44).
Note:Ifyounoticeanydamage,wear,oraslot

adequatehandprotection,slowlyrotatethe
bladetobemeasuredintoapositionthatallows
youtoeffectivelymeasurethedistancebetween
thecuttingedgeandthelevelsurfacethatthe
machineison(Figure45).
