Noise and Vibrations, Fault Tracing
Symptom fault tracing
Depending on the vehicle configuration, conditions related
to noise and vibration may be caused or influenced
by specific faults or malfunctions in other vehicle
components. These include components such as tires,
axles, the trailer, bodybuilder adaptations, etc. In such
cases see Service Information specific to that component.
Note: You must read and understand the precautions
and guidelines in Service Information, group 20,
"General Safety Practices, Engine" before performing any
suggested procedures. If you are not properly trained and
certified in a procedure, ask your supervisor for training
before you perform it.

Note: During fault tracing, the engine should be run at the
operating temperature (above 70
C [158 F] so EPG
warm-hold will not be active) as well as at the temperature
at which the symptom occurs.
Check whether any related Service Bulletins or other
information which affect the problem exist. If so
ensure that the vehicle is repaired according to the
instructions.
This general section includes symptoms that the driver
may consider irritating or of concern. Uneven operation
of the engine is included because of the affect it can
have on vibration symptoms.
