Engine Brake Complaints
Symptom fault tracing
Note: You must read and understand the precautions
and guidelines in Service Information, group 20,
"General Safety Practices, Engine" before performing any
suggested procedures. If you are not properly trained and
certified in a procedure, ask your supervisor for training
before you perform it.

Note: Do not activate the exhaust pressure regulator.
Note: During fault tracing, the engine should be run at
the operating temperature as well as at the temperature
where the symptom occurs.
Use a test drive to make sure that the engine brake
performs within specifications for the vehicle and
operating conditions.
Check whether related Service Information exists
and, if so, that the vehicle is repaired according to
instructions.
Under certain conditions, pressure variations in the
air and exhaust gases can affect braking ability. This
can result in noise or deteriorated braking torque. In
such cases, make sure that the pressure to the EPG
or exhaust manifold is not unstable.
