Anti-freeze
If there is a risk of frost, use a mixture of 40% Volvo
Penta anti-freeze (glycol) and water (to ASTM
D4985). This mixture prevents against frost bursting
down to about –25°C (–13°F), and should be used all
year round.
IMPORTANT! Even if the temperature never
gets as low as -25°C these mixture proportions
should be used to insure sufficient corrosion
protection. See the table below.
Mix glycol with water in a separate container before
filling the cooling system.
WARNING! Glycol is a health hazard (dangerous
to ingest).
IMPORTANT! Alcohol may not be used in the
cooling system.
Anti-corrosion mixture
When there is never a risk of freezing water (accor-
ding to ASTM D4985) mixed with Volvo Penta corrosi-
on protection may be used as coolant.
We recommend however that an anti-freeze mixture of
40% be used year-round, even in frost-free climates.
Mix according to the instructions on the package.
Operate the engine until it is warm after filling to prov-
ide the best possible performance.
If the time of operation exceeds 400 hours per year
the coolant’s anti-corrosion protection must be rep-
lenished by use of 1/2 liter of corrosion protection eve-
ry 400th operational hour.
WARNING! Corrosion protection is a health
hazard (dangerous to ingest).
IMPORTANT! Never mix corrosion protection
with anti-freeze (glycol). Foaming can occur
which can seriously impair cooling.
