lMAClteringfunction:Whentheswitchreceivesthepacketswithspeciedsource
addressordestinationaddress,itdropsthemaccordingtosourceMACaddressand
destinationMACaddress.
lMACaddresslearningcontrolmeansMAClearningcanprovidethreetypesoflearn-
ingmodesincludinghardwarewire-speedlearning,CPUcontrolledlearningandnon
learningtosatisfyvarioususerrequirements.Inaddition,MAClearningcanprovide
global,port-based,TRUNK-basedandVLAN-basedindependentswitches.
lMAClearningnumberlimitcancongurethemaximumlearningMACaddressnumber
basedonglobal,port,TRUNKandVLAN.Whenthevalueisreached,thenewMAC
cannotbelearnt.
lMACalarmcontrolcanconguretheoutputofthecommonalarminformationofMAC
function,forexample,theMAClearningnumberlimitisexceededandaddressdrift.
lMACaddressxedfunctioncantransformthedynamicMACentrytostaticorxed
MACentryinbatch.Aftertransformation,staticentrycannotdrift.Whenthedevice
isrebooted,MACxedentrycanrecoverandcannotdisappear.
lMACinformationdisplaymeansthecurrentMACfunctioncongurationandstate
informationcanbechecked.

TheMACaddressofEthernetNICisagroupof48–bitnumber.The48bitsincludetwo
parts.Theprevious24bitsareusedtorepresentthemanufacturerindicatingEthernet
NIC.Thefollowing24bitsareagroupofsequencenumbersdesignatedbymanufacturer
andnamedasOUI(OrganizationallyUniqueIdentier).Thelowestbit(themostleftbitin
thestructure)isnamedasprivateorgroupbit.Ifthisbitissetto0,therestaddressisa
privateaddress.If1,itmeanstheremainingaddressdomainidentiesthegroupaddress
requiringmoreresolution.IfthewholeOUIissetto1,eachsiteofthewholenetworkis
destination.ThatisthespecialengagementsupportedbyOUI.
