4. Protection functions
REM630 offers all the functionality needed to
manage motor starts and normal drive
operations also including protection and fault
clearance in abnormal situations. The motor
management IED features motor run-up time
supervision, locked rotor protection and
protection against too frequent motor starts.
Furthermore, the IED offers thermal overload
protection, phase unbalance protection,
stabilized differential protection for motors,
high-impedance or flux-balance-based
protection, three-phase directional overpower
protection, underexcitation protection, load-
based motor jam protection, loss of load
supervision, and phase-reversal protection.
REM630 also incorporates non-directional
and directional earth-fault protection, rotor
earth-fault protection and back-up
overcurrent protection. The IED also offers
optional negative and positive phase
sequence overvoltage protection, positive
phase sequence undervoltage protection,
underfrequency and overfrequency protection.
In certain motor drives of special importance
there must be a possibility to override the
motor thermal overload protection to perform
an emergency start of a hot motor. To enable
an emergency hot start, REM630 offers a
forced start feature.
