Themoduleformat(ISOorJIS)definesthetypeand
formatoftheinformationtoencode.ThestandardISO
format(alsoknownasIAT)isathree‐trackoption.The
JISformatisasingle‐trackoption.Bothformatsinclude
defaultdatasettingsthatdeterminehowmany
characterscanbeencodedoneachtrack,andwhich
characterscanbeencoded.
Yourcardscanusethedefaultformatforeachtrack,or
canuseadifferentcombinationoftracksanddata
formats.
Three-Track Option (ISO/IAT)
Thedefaultdataformatsforathree‐trackmagneticstripeoptionare:
• Track1—IATA
• Track2—ABA
• Track3—TTS
ThiscombinationisoftenabbreviatedIAT.ThisformatisalsocalledISOformat.
IATA (International Air Transport Association)
ThemaximumnumberofcharactersforIATAformatdatais76characters.These
characterscanincludespaces,uppercasealphabeticcharacters,numeric
characters,andthefollowingspecialcharacters:
