Maintenance (continued)
PERFORM A PRESSURE TEST
NOTE: Refer to the Replacement Parts section for
illustrations of part and part numbers referenced in this
section.
1. Before checking the pump for leaks around the shaft seal
(8), O-ring (23), and cord inlet, ensure the oil level is full as
described in the Replace the Oil section.
2. Remove the pipe plug from the housing end (19).
3. Apply pipe sealant to the pressure gauge assembly and
tighten into the hole.
4. Pressurize the motor housing to 6 PSI.
5. Use a soap solution around the sealed areas and inspect joints
for “air bubbles”.
6. If, after ve minutes, the pressure is still holding constant,
and no bubbles are observed, slowly bleed the pressure and
remove the gauge assembly.
7. Replace the pipe plug using a sealant. If the pressure does not
hold, then the leak must be located and repaired.
REPLACE THE OIL
NOTE: Refer to the Replacement Parts section for
illustrations of part and part numbers referenced in this
section.
1. Drain all oil from the motor housing (25) and dispose of
properly.
2. Rell with new cooling oil (#10 OIL or US SAE 10 OIL). An
air space must remain in the top of the motor housing to
compensate for air expansion.
3. Apply pipe thread compound to the threads of the pipe plug
(29) then assemble to the motor housing (25).
4. When relling with oil after servicing the shaft seal (8),
perform a Pressure Test. If the shaft seal was not disturbed
during service, then apply pipe sealant and replace the pipe
plug (29).
CAUTION: Do not overll oil. Overlling of the housing
tube with oil can create excessive and dangerous
hydraulic pressure which can destroy the pump and create
a hazard. Overlling oil voids warranty.
IMPELLER AND VOLUTE SERVICE
NOTE: Refer to the Replacement Parts section for
illustrations of part and part numbers referenced in this
section.
DISASSEMBLY AND INSPECTION
1. Disconnect power.
2. Disconnect the discharge piping.
3. Remove the screen (14) by removing the springs (30) and
lifting off.
4. Remove the screws (27) and pull the volute (1) and gasket (28)
from the bearing sleeve (9).
5. Remove the set screw (3), and remove the impeller (2) from
the motor shaft.
6. Replace the impeller if worn or pitted.
REASSEMBLY
1. Reassemble by placing the shims (5) on the shaft to ensure
proper clearance between the impeller (2) and bearing sleeve
(9). The clearance should be approximately .03 inches.
2. Screw the impeller (2) clockwise onto the shaft and place the
set screw (3) in place and tighten.
3. Place the gasket (28) and volute (1) onto the bearing sleeve (9)
and insert the screws (27) in place and tighten.
4. Replace the screen (14) with springs (30).
STRAINER SERVICE
DISASSEMBLY AND INSPECTION
□ The screen should be periodically cleaned. This is
accomplished by simply removing the springs and lifting off
the screen.
REASSEMBLY
□ Slide the screen back on, lining up between pump supports
and reattach the springs.
