6.4. IRIG-B Time Stamping (Optional)
IRIG-B is a timing signal commonly used to synchronize and timestamp several
peripherals and devices together. This amplitude modulated signal is generated
either by a GPS receiver or by a time generator device.
When connected to a SC5000 series camera, the signal is decoded and
timestamps each image acquired. This time stamp is integrated into the
information line of each image and stored by Altair software into the
sequences. This allows an ultra precise time stamping of the image.
Altair automatically recognizes images embedding IRIG-B information, thus
avoiding any complicated setup. If no valid signal is available on the camera,
Altair software automatically selects the PC time as the time stamp reference
for the acquisitions.
The IRIG-B signal characteristics are:
Carrier 1 KHz
Modulation ratio 3:1
Amplitude 3Vpp on the Mark Pulse
Code supported
IRIGB122 format (BCD_TOY)
IRIGB126 format (BCD_TOY + BCD_YEAR)
Time stamping accuracy: 10µs
Most IRIG-B generators deliver a signal called “1PPS” for “1 Pulse Per Second”.
This signal is synchronized to the beginning of each frame.
To use the IRIG-B option, you need an X0904 cable linked to the SC5000 lockin
connector. Please note that Rand2 isn’t available with the IRIG-B option.
