Remove
the
valve
rocker
arm
shaft
assembly
and
install
a
solid
tappet-type
push
rod
in
the
push
rod
bore
of
the
valve
to
be
checked.
Make
sure
the
push
rod
is
in
the
lifter
push
rod
cup,
then
install
a
dial
indicator
in
such
a
manner
as
to
have
the
actuating
point
of
the
indicator
in
the
push
rod
socket
and
in
the
same
plane
as
the
push
rod
movement
(Fig.
12). Rotate
the
crankshaft
slowly
in
the
direction
of
rotation
until
the
lifter
is
on
the
base
circle
of
the
cam
shaft
lobe.
At
this
point,
the
push
rod
will
be
in
its
lowest
position.
Set
the
dial
indicator
on
zero,
then
continue
to
rotate
the
damper
slowly
until
the
push
rod
is
in
the
fully
raised
position.
Compare
the
total
lift
recorded
on
the
indicator
with
specifications.
Continue
to
rotate
the
crank
shaft
until
the
indicator
reads
zero.
This
later
step
is
a
check
on
the
accuracy
of
the
original
indicator
reading.
