Before removing the heat sink, follow these steps:
1. Prepare the computer for disassembly (Preparation for disassembly on page 22).
2. Remove the bottom cover (see Bottom cover on page 23).
3. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board (see Battery on page 25).
Remove the heat sink:
1. In the order stamped on the heat sink, remove the four Phillips M2.0 × 3.0 screws (1) that secure the
heat sink to the system board.
2. Remove the heat sink from the system board (2).
NOTE: Thoroughly clean the thermal material from the surfaces of the heat sink and the system board
components each time the heat sink is removed. Replacement thermal material is included with the heat sink
and system board spare part kits.
Thermal paste is used on the processor (1) and the heat sink section (2) that services it.
