Finishing work
– Check that the wiring harness, throttle cables, and brake and clutch lines can move
freely and are routed correctly.
– Install the front fender. ( p. 52)
– Install the front wheel. ( p. 84)
– Check the play of the steering head bearing. ( p. 50)
– Remove the motorcycle from the lift stand. ( p. 44)
– Install the start number plate. ( p. 52)
– Mount the handlebar cushion.
11.11 Checking the play of the steering head bearing

– Adjust the steering head bearing play without delay. (Your authorized KTM workshop will be glad to help.)

If the bike is ridden with play in the steering head bearing, the bearing and the bearing seats in the frame can become dam-
aged over time.
Preparatory work
– Raise the motorcycle with a lift stand. ( p. 44)

Main work
– Move the handlebar to the straight-ahead position. Move the fork legs to and fro in
the direction of travel.
No play should be noticeable in the steering head bearing.
» If there is noticeable play present:
– Adjust the steering head bearing play. ( p. 50)
– Move the handlebar to and fro over the entire steering range.
The handlebar must be able to move easily over the entire steering range. There
should be no perceptible detent positions.
» If detent positions are noticeable:
– Adjust the steering head bearing play. ( p. 50)
– Check the steering head bearing and replace if required.
Finishing work
– Remove the motorcycle from the lift stand. ( p. 44)
