8.5 Braking
Warning
Danger of accidentsIf you brake too hard, the wheels can lock.
Adapt your braking to the traffic situation and the road conditions.
Warning
Danger of accidentsReduced braking efficiency caused by spongy pressure point of front or rear brake.
Check the brake system and do not continue riding. (Your authorized KTM workshop will be glad to help.)
Warning
Danger of accidentsReduced braking efficiency due to a wet or dirty brake system.
Clean or dry a dirty or wet brake system by riding and braking gently.
On sandy, wet or slippery surfaces, use the rear brake.
Braking should always be completed before you go into a bend. Change down to a lower gear appropriate to your road speed.
Make use of the braking effect of the engine when driving down long downhill stretches. To do so, shift back one or two gears, but
do not overrev the engine. You will need to apply the brakes far less often and the brake system will not overheat.
8.6 Stopping, parking
Warning
Risk of misappropriationUsage by unauthorized persons.
Never leave the vehicle while the engine is running. Secure the vehicle against use by unauthorized persons.

Danger of burnsSome vehicle components become very hot when the vehicle is operated.
Do not touch hot components such as exhaust system, radiator, engine, shock absorber, and the brake system. Allow these
components to cool down before starting work on them.

Fire hazardSome vehicle components become very hot when the vehicle is operated.
Do not park the vehicle near flammable or explosive substances. Do not place objects on the vehicle while it is still warm from
being run. Always let the vehicle cool first.
Note
Material damageThe vehicle may be damaged by incorrect procedure when parking.
Significant damage may be caused if the vehicle rolls away or falls over.
The components for parking the vehicle are designed only for the weight of the vehicle.
Park the vehicle on a firm and level surface.
Ensure that nobody sits on the vehicle when the vehicle is parked on a stand.
Apply the brakes on the motorcycle.
Shift gear to neutral.
Press and hold the kill switch while the engine is idling until the engine stops.

Turn handle
of the fuel tap to the OFF position. (Figure M01127-10 p. 14)
(250 SX)
Turn handle
of the fuel tap to the OFF position. (Figure B02072-10 p. 14)
(All XC models)
Turn handle
of the fuel tap to the OFF position. (Figure L00904-10 p. 14)
(All SX models)
Rest the vehicle on the plug-in stand.
(All XC models)
Rest the vehicle on the side stand.
