12 BRAKE SYSTEM 50
Guideline
Brake fluid level under top level of con-
tainer
5 mm (0.2 in)
Brake fluid DOT 4 / DOT 5.1 ( p. 81)
Position the cover with the membrane. Mount and tighten the screws.

Clean up overflowed or spilt brake fluid immediately with water.
12.11 Checking the free travel of the foot brake lever
Warning
Danger of accidentsBrake system failure.
If there is no free travel on the foot brake lever, pressure builds up on the rear brake circuit. The rear brake may fail due to
overheating. Adjust the free travel on foot brake lever according to specifications.

Disconnect spring 1.
Move the foot brake lever back and forth between the end stop and the foot brake
cylinder piston bracket and check free travel A.
Guideline
Free travel of foot brake lever 3… 5 mm (0.12… 0.2 in)
» If the free travel does not meet specifications:
Adjust the free travel of the foot brake lever. x ( p. 50)
Attach spring 1.

Detach the spring.
Loosen nut 1.
Turn push rod 2 until clearance A is created.
Guideline
Free travel of foot brake lever 3… 5 mm (0.12… 0.2 in)
Hold push rod 2 and tighten nut 1.
Attach the spring.
Check whether the basic position of the foot brake lever is suitable for the rider.
