OFF — The steering is unlocked and can be rotated. In this position all electrical
circuits are enabled. Use this mode when you want to listen to music, etc., with the
engine temporarily switched OFF.
IGN — All electrical circuits are enabled. Some of the warning or information lamps
illuminate in this position. While some of the lamps will go out after a few seconds,
some will continue to remain ON till the engine is started. When the vehicle is being
driven, the ignition switch remains in the IGN position.
Select the ignition ON position when the vehicle is being towed.
Do not leave the ignition ON for long when the engine is OFF. This could lead to
battery drain and ignition switch damage.
START — This position is to start the engine by cranking the starter motor. This is a
momentary position. When the key is turned to the start position, the starter cranks
the engine. Once the engine is running, release the key, and the key reverts back to
the IGN position and the starter motor disengages from the engine.
Do not continue cranking after the engine has started. This will lead to damage
of the starter and other engine components.
If turning the key is difficult, jiggle the steering wheel from side to side and try
again. The key can be removed only in the LOCK position. When the key is
removed, the steering column lock is activated and the steering wheel cannot
be turned.
Never return the key to the LOCK position or try to remove the key, when the
vehicle is in motion. Removing the key allows the steering wheel to lock. You will
lose control of the vehicle and may cause a serious accident. Remove the key
only when the vehicle is parked.
