Battery Installation ‑ Electric Start Models
MOUNTING BATTERY
Follow the battery manufacturer's instructions carefully. Mount
battery in the boat so it is secured against movement, preferably
in a battery box. Make sure battery is equipped with a
nonconductive shield to prevent accidental shorting of battery
terminals.
NOTE: Electric starting outboards must have the battery cables
connected to a battery whenever the engine is running. Even if
started manually, as damage to the charging system could result.
Battery Connections
CONNECTING OUTBOARD BATTERY CABLES
1. First, connect the red battery cable to the (+) positive battery
terminal and then connect the black battery cable to the (‑)
negative battery terminal.
DISCONNECTING OUTBOARD BATTERY CABLES
1. First, disconnect the black battery cable from the (‑) negative
terminal and then disconnect the red battery cable from the
(+) positive terminal.
Propeller Installation

WARNING
Rotating propellers can cause serious injury or death. Never
operate the boat out of the water with a propeller installed. Before
installing or removing a propeller, place the drive unit in neutral
and engage the lanyard stop switch to prevent the engine from
starting.
