Prevent/Allow Medium Removal
180 SL150 Interface Reference Manual Julyl 2017
Prevent/Allow Medium Removal
The Prevent/Allow Medium Removal command (1Eh) requests that the library
enable or disable operator access to the mailslot and magazine(s).
• If allowed, the mailslot and magazine(s) are unlocked. The mailslot may be
opened and the magazine(s) may be unlatched from the user interface.
• If prevented, the mailslot and magazine(s) are locked. The mailslot cannot be
opened and the magazine(s) cannot be unlatched from the user interface.
All initiators are set to an allow media removal state, which enables user interface
access to the mailslots and magazine(s), after any of the following resets:
• Power On Reset
• Library Reset
• Bridged Tape Drive Reset
• SCSI Task Management Reset that affects LUN 1
The Prevent/Allow Media Removal Behavior depends on the bridged tape drive in a
multi-initiator environment.
HP Bridged Tape Drive:
The HP Bridged Tape Drive keeps Prevent/Allow data on a per-initiator basis. If
any initiator has set a prevent state, the library prevents anyone from open8ing
the mailslot or unlatching the magazine(s).
IBM Bridged Tape Drive:
The IBM Bridged Tape Drive keeps Prevent data on a per-initiator basis. If any
initiator issues an Allow Media Removal command, then the Prevent data is
cleared for all initiators and Media Removal is allowed.
