68 . High-Performance Lambda Spectrometers Hardware Guide
Figure 30 Drain holes in standard sample compartment baseplate
1. First remove the cell holder or other sample-handling accessory from the sample
compartment.
2. Using a soft cloth and a solution of a mild laboratory detergent, lightly scrub away all foreign
matter.
3. Using a clean cloth dampened with water, rinse the cleaned surfaces thoroughly.
4. Dry with lint-free cloth or tissue.
Sample Compartment Windows
Four windows are provided with the spectrometer. The windows are made of silica and may be
used in the entire spectral range of the spectrometer.
The windows seal the sample compartment and thus protect the instrument’s optics from dust and
fuming or aggressive samples.
Generally, the windows should be installed at all times.
The windows are an optical component and require the same care and handling as cells.
The windows can be removed to clean them. Each window has a magnetic frame and can be
carefully removed by hand.
Windows are most suitably cleaned by wiping them with a soft cloth moistened with ethanol.
Replace the window in its original position after cleaning.
